Obituary of Alexander "AL" D. Marchese
Alexander “Al” D. Marchese, 77, of Sandown, NH and formerly of West Peabody, husband of Marie (Beaton) Marchese, died Monday at the Parkland Medical Center, Dover, NH, after a short illness. He was born in Wartertown, NY on December 3, 1932, the son of the late Daniel and Freida (Fournier) Marchese and had resided in Lynnfield, MA during his youth and was a graduate of Wakefield High School. He had resided in West Peabody for several years before moving to New Hampshire 10 years ago.
He entered the US Air Force in 1951 serving in the Korean War with the 802 Super Squadron. Following his discharge, he began his career as an iron worker for 52 years and was working as a consultant up until 6 months ago. He was a member and also served as president of the Local 7 Iron Workers Union of Boston. He had attended the Harvard Business School of Labor and worked hard in making the union a strong and viable one for its members.
Al was very active in sports both as a player and coach. He had been a member of the Lynn Junior Bruins Hockey team in his teens and later, while living in Peabody, he coached in the Peabody Western Little League and later in the Peabody Babe Ruth League for many years.
He also was an avid golfer playing in Lynnfield at Sagamore and Lynnfield Center golf courses as well as many florida courses during the winter. He enjoyed talking politics letting his opinions be known.
Surviving him besides his wife of 54 years of marriage, are a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Barbara Marchese of Peabody, three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Llukan and her husband Alex of Nashua, NH, Debbie and Michael Connelly of Danvers and Darlene and Brian Lanequirand of Hampstead, NH, his nine grandchildren, Amanda Marchese, twins Alex and his wife Lisa and Andy Llukan, Michael Eng, Derel Llukan, Danny Marchese, Ashely Languirand, Justin Languirand and Casandra Eng, three great grandchildren, R.J. Jolly, Christopher Parent-Boudreault and Aubrey Rose Eng, his lifelong friend of 70 years, Neil Rayworth of Peabody and many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:30 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., West Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave., Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02062 in his memory.
