Obituary of Jose Da Cunha

Jose Da Cunha, 73, of Peabody, died Saturday morning at Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Maria Grace (Oliveira) Cunha. Born in Sao Martinho da Cortica, Portugal, he was the son of the late Abilio and Maria (Candida) Cunha. He was raised in Portugal, later lived in Brazil for 9 years, and in 1963 he immigrated to the United States and has been living in Peabody ever since. While living in Brazil he owned and operated his own bakery, and when he moved to Peabody, he worked in the leather industry for various tanneries in Peabody before he retired a few years ago. Jose was a member of the Portuguese Continental Union, enjoyed gardening and was an all around handyman around the home. Besides his loving wife Maria, Jose is survived by his children, Abilio and his wife Eliane Cunha, and Rita Cunha, all of Lawrence, and Michael and his wife Jennifer Cunha of Salem, his sister, Maria Ceus Santos of Peabody, and by his beloved 5 grandchildren, Halysson & Jessica Cunha, Lilliana Cunha, Andre Santos and Rodrigo Silva, and by his great grandson, Richard Silva. He was the brother of the late Carlos Cunha. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
