Obituary of Matilda "Mae" (Carter) Sirois

Matilda “Mae” (Carter) Sirois, 81, of Peabody, died Saturday morning at the Pilgrim Nursing Home in Peabody following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Robert Sirois. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late James and Florence (Codair) Carter. She was a life long resident of Peabody and attended Peabody Schools and St. John’s Grammar School. Mae enjoyed making quilts, playing bingo and doing arts and crafts. Family was Mae’s greatest joy, and she was the Matriarch of the family. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren sporting activities and endeavors. She was also an active and a former president of the Arbella Drum and Bugle Corps of Salem. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Maryanne Sirois of Peabody and Joseph and Julie Sirois of Seabrook, NH, a daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Michael Martin II of Peabody, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Rosemary Carter of Onset, and James Carter of Peabody, a sister, Florence Fortin of Peabody, eight grandchildren, Christie Sirois of Albany, NY, Matthew Sirois of Manchester, NH, Allison, Sarah, and Paige Sirois of Peabody, and Kristin, Amanda, and Michael Martin III of Peabody, four great grandchildren, Abby Sirois of Lynn, and Daniel, Isaiah, and Deshaun Sirois of Albany, NY, and is expecting a fifth great granddaughter in February, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Phyllis Carter, Arlene Tweed, and Alice Perry, and was the grandmother of the late Amy Sirois. Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 12:00 PM Noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
