Obituary of Filomena V. Mendonca

Filomena Vasconcelos Mendonca 47 years, wife of Manuel Leonardo Da Silva of Peabody, died Monday morning at the Salem Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mrs. Mendonca was born March 19, 1958 in Guadalupe, Santa Cruz, Graciosa, Portugal daughter of Virgilio Mendonca and Luisa Da Conceicao (Vasconcelos) Bettencourt of Portugal. She was raised and educated in Portugal. She immigrated to the United States in 1992 making her home in Peabody. She was a member of the Society of the Holy Ghost in Peabody. She loved taking pictures, crocheting and sewing. In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by a son, Eduino M.V. Da Silva of Peabody; a brother and his wife, Manuel Vitorino Vasconcelos and Maria Mendonca of Pelham NH; 3 sisters, Maria de Lourdes Vasconcelos Bettencourt, Maria de Guadalupe Vasconcelos Bettencourt and Maria Conceicao Vasconcelos Bettencourt all of Portugal and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St. location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 5 - 9 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the N.S. Cancer Center, 17 Centennial Drive, Peabody MA 01960.
