Obituary of Anna M. (Hassett) Waters
Anna Mary (Hassett) Waters, 89, of Peabody, died peacefully early Monday morning surrounded by her family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was the wife of the late Frank L. Waters.
Anna was born in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland on December 8, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Magner) Hassett and was raised and educated there, graduating from St. Mary’s Convent School. She came to America in 1939 and resided in Peabody for 68 years. In 2007 she moved to Danvers where she received loving care from her granddaughter Karyn Hebert.
Anna had been employed at the former Farnsworth Nursing Home and later at the former J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody, from which she retired. She was a talented knitter, quilter and seamstress, making sweaters, mittens, slippers and blankets that she gave to her family and friends all around the world. She enjoyed sewing and crafting at the Torigian Senior Center during her retirement years. She was always available for the family gatherings and cherished being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her ten children and their spouses, Margaret Casey of Peabody, John and Noreen Waters of Danvers, Joe (Muddy) Waters of Salem, NH, Eileen Murphy of Lynn, Jan Costa of Salem, MA, Bettie Anne Jervah of Danvers, Patricia and Carl Boyd of N. Attleboro, Henry and Leslie Jo Waters of Fairfax, VA, Maureen Mara of Stow, MA and Christine and Paul Gaudreault of Peabody, a sister Molly Feanny of Kingston, Jamaica, a brother Charles Brussard of Arlington, MA, 21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews both locally and in Ireland, Canada and Jamaica. She was the sister of the late Patrick Hassett and Peggy Murphy and the mother-in-law of the late Len Costa.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the South Congregational Church, Prospect Street Peabody at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Grant Hoofnagle officiating. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Wadsworth Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the South Congregational Memorial Fund, 64 Prospect St., Peabody, MA 01960.
