Obituary of Fred L. Bento

Fred L. Bento, 75, of Peabody, died Sunday morning at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Loretta (Conde) Bento. Born in Medford, he was the son of the late Anthony and Palmira (Ferreira) Bento. He was raised and educated in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville Trade High School. In addition to Somerville Trade School, he took college prep courses at Newman Prep. After high school, Fred enlisted with the United States Air Force and served for four years. After his military service, he worked for the city of Peabody as a mechanic at the city garage for over 30 years before retiring. After his retirement, he still enjoyed working for the city and worked 2 days a week until his recent illness. Fred enjoyed boating and visiting the Ossipee Lake Region in New Hampshire and would spend many weekends there enjoying the beauty and relaxation of the region. Besides his loving wife, Fred is survived by two sons, Stephen Bento of Peabody and his fiancé Liza DeMichele, and James Bento of Eugene, Oregon and his fiancé Karen Fitzgerald, two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Louis Silveira of Gloucester and Julie and Robert Ordway of Peabody, two sisters, Irene Owens of Norwood and Alice and her husband Melvin Weir of Peterborough, NH, four grandchildren, Anthony and Brian Silveira and Thomas and Sean Ordway, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Priscilla Tarbox and Dorothy Bento. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Con way, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Donations can be made in his name to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, Ma 01923.
