Obituary of Spiros Aristotle Zakas

Spiros Aristotle Zakas, 86, of Peabody, died unexpectedly Saturday in Florida at The Villages Regional Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Carol A Zakas of Peabody with whom he shared over 53 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Aristotle and Helen (Karakas) Zakas. Spiros enlisted with the United States Navy during World War II in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Prior to his retirement, Spiros worked for the city of Peabody for 16 years in the Public Works Department. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1011 in Peabody. Besides his loving wife Carol, he is survived by his children, Maryanne Garnham of Salem, Cheryl Cochran of Summerfield, FL, Jon Zakas of North Africa, Angelo Zakas, Charleen Libby, and Cathy Russell all of Peabody, a brother, Angelo Zakas of Gloucester and a sister, Aileen L’Abbe of Danvers and also by 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Randy Zakas. His service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Harmony Grove Crematory, Salem.
