Elizabeth (Dolan) Prescott
PEABODY Elizabeth (Dolan) Prescott, 80, former professor of English and Linguistics at Salem State College, died Wednesday, July 27th at her daughter’ s home in Southport, Maine.
She was the daughter of the late Commander William R. Dolan and Mary F. (McCarthy) Dolan. Elizabeth Prescott was a graduate of Ste. Chretienne Academy, Salem, and Our Lady of the Elms College, Chicopee, Mass. She earned three master’ s degrees: from Boston College, Boston University, and State University of New York at Buffalo. She also pursued a doctorate in linguistic studies at SUNY at Buffalo.
After retiring from 36 years of teaching at Salem State College, she pursued a life-long interest in the Civil War by joining a local roundtable; she participated in reenactments and wrote Civil War related poetry.
She is survived by her three children: Patricia Dolan Laehn of Sudbury, MA; William Dolan Prescott of Florida; and Leela Dolan Hill of Boulder, Colorado. In addition, she is survived by four granddaughters, two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her Funeral on Tuesday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody.
The wake will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday.
Burial will be in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
