Obituary of John J. Scolaro Sr.

John J. Scolaro Sr., 76, of Peabody died early Monday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a short illness. He was born in Medford, MA on June 28, 1934, the son of the late Bartolo and Giovannina (Trainello) Scolaro and was a graduate of Medford High School. He entered the US Air Force in 1951 serving in the Korean War as a mechanic with the 363rd Field Maintenance Squadron until his discharge as a A/2C in October of 1955. Following his discharge, he became an auto mechanic in Revere for over thirty years. He enjoyed fixing and repairing engines and making them run again. He also had a love of country music and played them on his guitar. He is survived by his loving and devoted companion of twenty eight years, Joan M. Boutchia of Peabody, his children and their spouses, Christopher J. Scolaro of East Kingston, NH, Salvatore A. and Janice Scolaro of Melrose, MA and Nancy L. and Lionel G. Mumper of East Kingston, NH, his siblings, Dominic Scolaro of Melrose, Salvatore Scolaro and Rose Bonersano both of Medford , Anne Jacques of Marlboro, Olympia Picelli of PA and Catherine Ward of Plainville, MA, his three grandchildren, Michael J. and Matthew C. Mumper and Tyler J. Scolaro and a great granddaughter, Olivia J. Mumper. He was a dear friend of Joan Boutchia's children, Denise E. Gatta, William R. Boutchia 111, Debra E. Mehigan, Diane M. Passanisi, Darlene M. Pilgrim and Warren E. Boutchia as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late John J. Scolaro Jr, and the brother of the late Frank Scolaro, Anthony Scolaro, Virginia Hatch and Mary Ramsey. A Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility (Downtown). His funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Following cremation, a military burial will take place in the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at a later date.
