Obituary of Joan C. (Sheehan) Makarewicz

Joan C. (Sheehan) Makarewicz DANVERS—Joan C. (Sheehan) Makarewicz, 78, died peacefully at Radius Healthcare facility while in the comforting presence of her family. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Peter L. and Anna (Curtin) Sheehan. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lynn, and continued her education at the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Makarewicz was a registered nurse, and was employed as the Nurse Supervisor at the former Danvers State Hospital, Head Nurse at the Hunt Hospital in Danvers, and was also previously employed at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home all in Danvers. Joan was an avid sports fan who loved the Boston Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox. Her most cherished sporting events to watch were any in which her children or grandchildren were participants. She was an animal lover, enjoyed square dancing, music, and trips to Lake Horace in New Hampshire. She was a devoted Catholic and will be clearly missed by her family and extended friends throughout the North Shore. She is survived by: two sons, Mac Makarewicz of Danvers and Marty Makarewicz & his significant other Karen Griffith of Warwick, RI, and a daughter and son-in-law, Ann & Joe Curley of Danvers; four grandsons, Tim, Sean, Kevin and James Curley all of Danvers; a brother, Peter & his wife Dot Sheehan of NY; three nephews, Peter Sheehan of NY, Michael & his wife Ginger Sheehan of NH, and Danny & his wife Chris Sheehan of NY and their families; she was the former wife of Conrad Makarewicz of Middleton and daughter-in-law of Helen Kelley of Middleton. Her funeral will be held on Saturday November 27, 2010 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Richard’s Church, Forest St., Danvers, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lynn, MA. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
