Obituary of Elizabeth A. (Sheehan) Devaney
Elizabeth A. (Sheehan) Devaney, 76, of Waterville Maine and Peabody, MA, died Friday at the Maine General Hospital in Waterville, MA following a short illness. She was the wife of the late Everett M. Devaney Jr. who died earlier this year.
She was born in Boston on April 23, 1934 the daughter of the late Francis and Frances (Meagher) Sheehan and had resided in Massachusetts, Sarasota Florida and Waterville Maine.
Elizabeth had been a talented athlete in both skiing and in tennis. She finished in first place in the Downhill Slalom for the USA Team in Vermont in 1957. Later she was a seeded player in tennis and won many tournaments.
She was first employed at the former NE Tel and Tel Company for many years. Later she operated with her family a restaurant in Watertown and then became a Real Estate Agent and helped many people in obtaining their Real Estate licenses. She later received a nursing degree from Mass General Hospital , Boston and was a private duty nurse. While in Maine she was employed with Maine General Healthreach Hospice in Waterville for the past 12 years.
Elizabeth enjoyed watching sports, especially football and enjoyed taking walks along the ocean beachfronts of Maine and Florida and boating in the lakes in Maine.
She is survived by a daughter, Marybeth McLeod of Boston, a son, William Sean McLeod of Massachusetts, three step-sons, Everett Devaney Jr. and his wife Diane of New Jersey, Dennis Devaney of Norridgewock, Maine and Kenneth Devaney of Peabody, a step-daughter, Nancy Taglieri and her husband William of Peabody, 3 brothers, Frank Sheehan of Florida and twin brothers Peter Sheehan of Plymouth, MA and Paul Sheehan of Florida, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the step-mother of the late Rosemarie
McIntosh.
A Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral Service will be held there on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dan Rogers as celebrant. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
