Obituary of Robert E. Fitzgerald

Robert Fitzgerald PEABODY—Robert Fitzgerald, 89, beloved husband of the late Ruth (Sheridan) Fitzgerald, died peacefully in his sleep Friday evening at the Rosewood Nursing Center in Peabody following a brief illness. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Robert and Nora (Salmon) Fitzgerald. He grew up in Lynn, and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. He continued his undergraduate education with his bachelor degree from Salem State College. He later received a masters degree from Boston University. Robert served a patriotic duty in the United States Army during World War II, serving in Central Europe. His bravery earned him a Purple Heart. Mr. Fitzgerald was employed by the United States Government, as a Postal Administrator in Providence, RI and in Boston for many years until retiring in 1977. Robert enjoyed sports, and was a dedicated, lifelong Red Sox fan, and he enjoyed gatherings of friends and family. Surviving him are: a son, Kevin and his wife Ruth Fitzgerald of Medfield; a daughter, Noreen Clarke of Nashua, NH and North Carolina and her late husband Bill; five grandchildren, Ian & his wife Sara Clarke, and Heather & her husband Gene Powell, Robert, Peter and Ann Fitzgerald; one brother, Richard Fitzgerald of Lynn, and three nephews, Richard, Thomas, and David Fitzgerald. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Monday December 6, 2010 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 – 4 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
