Obituary of Patricia "Pat" (Marquis) Burke

Patricia A. Pat (Marquis) Burke PEABODY-- Patricia A. Pat (Marquis) Burke, 76, beloved wife of the late George Burke, died Friday evening at the Salem Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Marie B. (Champagne) Marquis. She lived in Lynn in her youth, living in the Pine Hill neighborhood. She graduated from St. Jean the Baptiste High School, Class of 1947. She then attended Comp School in Cambridge to prepare for her administrative duties. Mrs. Burke worked initially with General Electric in Lynn, was a Cashier at Hood Milk in Salem, Secretary at Old Colony Oil in Chelsea and was employed in the offices of Eastern Bank headquarters in Lynn for most of her career. She worked a short time as a Hostess at Sam & Joe’ s in Danvers and volunteered at Union Hospital after retirement. She was a communicant at St. Ann’ s Church in Peabody for over 52 years, and was a member of the Sodality at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody, she enjoyed Betty Boop cartoons, Norman Rockwell paintings, very active at the Peabody Community Life Center especially with Beano and Aerobics, and also their day trips liked houseplants, and she loved spending time with her family, friends and her dogs. She is survived by: one daughter, Donna Horgan of Peabody; three grandchildren, Candice Horgan, Derek Horgan, and Shannon Horgan, all of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Frederick Togo Marquis and Eugene Richie Marquis and sisters Ursula Santarella and Constance O’ Brien, and she was the former wife of Edward Spinelli. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut ST location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Ann’ s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Cremation will take place after the Funeral Mass, and urn burial will be in St. Jean Cemetery, Lynn Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701
