Obituary of Malama T. "Molly" (Mitchell) Xerras

Malama T. “Molly” (Mitchell) Xerras, 64, of Peabody, died Friday, December 10, 2010 in her home surrounded by her loving family after a year long battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Spiros Xerras with whom she shared 43 years of marriage. She was born in Lowell, MA, the daughter of Filia (Mavrogiannis) Mitchell and the late Constantine C. Mitchell. She was raised in Chicago, IL and moved back to the Boston area as a college student. She graduated from Boston University in 1967, and was wed to Spiros in July of 1967 and settled in Peabody for the past 43 years. She had been an avid reader and member of many book clubs. She enjoyed taking walks and had been involved with the North Shore Players Club doing some acting work. Molly was an active member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and the St. Vasilios Philoptochos Society. She especially loved traveling with her husband and spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends. She is survived by her husband of Peabody, her mother of Canton, her loving son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Dean C. and Lynne Xerras of Newton, her cherished daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Frank Varinos of Middleton. She was a devoted “YiaYia Molly” to her seven grandchildren, Madeline, Charlotte and Luke Xerras of Newton, Anastas, Speros, Elias and Sophia Varinos of Middleton, a loving brother, Dr. George C. Mitchell of Easton, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many loving nieces and nephews. She will be eternally missed by her loving family and dear friends who were at her side during her final days. A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the VNA Care Hospice, 5 Federal St., Danvers, MA 01923 in her memory.
