Obituary of Dorothy B. (LaBrie) Lane
Dorothy B. (LaBrie) Lane, 87, of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died Saturday evening at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late John F. Lane, Sr., with whom she shared over 42 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Hector and Lydia (Breault) LaBrie. She was raised and educated in Salem and has spent the last 34 years living in Peabody.
Dorothy worked for over 45 years in the automount department at GTE Sylvania on Loring Ave in Salem as an assembler before retiring many years ago. She was a member of the Sylvania Quarter Century Club and enjoyed bowling on the Sylvania Bowling team in Salem and Danvers. She was a communicant of St. Adelaide’s Church in Peabody.
In addition to her bowling, Dorothy enjoyed knitting Irish wool sweaters for her family and friends. After retiring from Sylvania, she enjoyed attending the Peabody Senior Center, playing bingo, traveling to Foxwoods and line dancing. She was a sports enthusiast and avid fan of all the Boston professional sports teams.
She is survived by a son, John F. Lane, Jr., and his wife Kathleen of Beverly, and by her loving grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick and Ryan Lane, all of Beverly and by her brothers and sister-in-law, William Lane of Cambridge, Francis Lane of West Roxbury, and Mary Beatty of Natick and by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert, Rene, Romeo, and Armand LaBrie, Juliette Denis, and Violet Bergeron.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to either the food pantry at St. Joseph’s Harvest for Hope, 13 Franklin St., Salem, MA 01970 or St. John’s Prep Scholarship Fund, 72 Spring St., Danvers, MA 01923.
