Obituary of Timothy J. Guinee, Jr.

Timothy Joseph Guinee Jr., 87, of Topsfield, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, died peacefully at his home on January 3, 2011 after a brief illness, surrounded by four generations of his loving family. A devout Catholic, Mr. Guinee was a member of the first class at St. Joseph Elementary School in Medford, MA. He was a proud graduate of Malden Catholic High School, class of 1941. Upon graduation, he volunteered for the Army Air Corp, serving as an engine mechanic in the China Burma India Theater headquartered in Bangalore, India during World War II. After an honorable discharge, Mr. Guinee attended and graduated from Boston College (1951) and Harvard Business School (1953) while working full-time at Clark and Cook Ford Dealership in Medford, MA to support his wife and family. Recruited out of Harvard by Ford Motor Company, Mr. Guinee started his career as District Manager, and subsequently became the General Manager of Cote Motors in Mattapan, MA. In 1963, he purchased Danvers Motor Company in Danvers, MA where he worked alongside his children and many committed employees for more than 40 years. An industry leader, Mr. Guinee served as president and board member of the New England Ford Dealers Organization, the New England Ford Dealers Advertising Association, the Ford Dealer Life Insurance Organization, and the New England Ford Parts Co-operative. In 1981, Mr. Guinee moved his family to Connemara House in Topsfield, a home that ultimately reflected his Irish heritage and personal vision for a family homestead. It was here that his hobby for the outdoors and farming flourished. Together, the family restored the antique estate and planted the 1500 fruit tree orchard that subsequently became the roots for many wonderful memories for his family and friends. An avid angler, Mr. Guinee also enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada, and Sunday outings on the family boat both on the North Shore and the waters of coastal Florida. His many friends and family will treasure these moments with him at the helm. Mr. Guinee lived a life committed to serving others, donating both time and money to countless organizations. A board member and President of North Shore Catholic Charities, the Danvers Rotary Club, and the Danvers YMCA, he also received the Paul Harris Fellowship award from Danvers Rotary. He was an active member of the China Burma India League (CBIL), and a generous donor and supporter of both alumni groups of Malden Catholic High School and Boston College. In 2008, he received the Malden Catholic Award for Distinguished Alumni. In 1981, he was inducted into the Knights of Malta. He also spent many years as a dedicated volunteer at My Brother’s Table in Lynn, MA, cooking and serving dinner with his children and grandchildren every month. Born May 9th, 1923 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he was the devoted son of Timothy J. and Mary E. (Lowery) Guinee. Mr. Guinee is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Helene (“Babe”) R.
