Obituary of Ruth (Krankka) Mantyla

Ruth (Krankka) Mantyla, 85, of Peabody, died early Thursday morning at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home in Peabody after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Albert E. Mantyla. She was born in Peabody on September 1, 1925, the daughter of the late Olli and Katherine (Kangas) Krankka and resided here all her life. She was a graduate of Peabody High School and Essex County Agricultural Institute in Middleton in 1942. Ruth had been employed at the Sylvania Lighting Company at the Danvers plant during World War 11. She then raised her family and became a matriarch of the family nuturing her children and grandchildren. She also loved taking care of her precious cats and enjoyed doing knitting and crocheting. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Albert E. and Janet Mantyla Jr. , A grandson, Albert E. Mantyla III all of Peabody, her nephews, John E. Kauppinen Jr. and Richard Kauppinen both of Peabody, and Donald Krankka of Missouri, her nieces Kathy Scully of CA and Gail Morin of Maine, a sister-in-law, Eleanor Krankka of California and many grand nieces and grand nephews and their children. She was the sister of the late Dorothy Kauppinen, Onni John Krankka and Tauno Krankka and the aunt of the late Ruth Craig. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:30 to 12 Noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility with a Funeral Service there at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
