Obituary of Georgios Vasilios Tsimounis

Georgios Vasilios Tsimounis, 64, of Peabody, died Friday at the home of his daughter after a ten month battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of 40 years to Tina (Tsouxlis) Tsimounis. He was born in Chios, Greece on August 20, 1946, the son of the late Vasilios and Theano (Moundrou) Tsimounis and was raised and resided there during his youth. He then joined the Merchant Marines and later became a sailor with the Greek Navy where he explored all parts of the world. Georgios came to Peabody in 1971 and had worked in the leather industry for fifteen years, first at the Fairmount Leather Co., Peabody and later at Leach & Hechel Leather Co., Salem. He then was employed at the Bay Trading Company in Danvers prior to a disability retirement. He loved to travel and took many trips back to Greece. He also liked working in his garden, drawing and building kites and boats. What he enjoyed most was helping raise his grandchildren and being with them. Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Vasilios and Kerrianne Tsimounis of Salem, two daughters and sons-in-law, Theano and Spiro Khouri and Maria and Carmine Di Fruscia all of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Antonios and Dora Tsimounis of Salem, eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral home followed by services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM.
