Obituary of Leonel Luz Silva

Leonel Luz Silva, 89, of Peabody, died Friday evening at the Masconomet Health Care Center in Topsfield, MA following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Iduina (Quadros) Silva who died last October. He was born in the Azores,Portugal on October 5, 1921, the son of the late Lino Jose and Maria (da Luz) Silva and was raised and resided in Portugal before immigrating to Peabody in 1967. He had been employed in the leather industry for 20 years, first at Victory Tanning and later at Gnecco and Grilk Leather Company, Peabody prior to his retirement. He had been a member of Our Lady of Help and also a member of the Portuguese American War Veterans, Post 1 of Peabody. He loved his hobby of gardening and growing both flowers and vegetables. Leonel is survived by his children and their spouses, Odelta S. and David Bettencourt, John Q. and Linda Silva, Lino Q. and Lenice Silva, Manuel L and Manuela Silva, Maria F. and David Mendonsa and Jospeh Q. and Tara Silva all of Peabody, his 12 twelve grandchildren, Louis, Fernando, Elizabeth, Lisa, Amy, Kym, Kristina, Jonathan, Matthew, Nelson, Ryan and Kyle, 7 great grandchildren, a sister , Carlota Quadros of Canada and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Maria Morais. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2011 at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours are Monday , January 11, 2011 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.
