Obituary of William Mello
Peabody, January 6, 2003. William Mello, 76, of Peabody, died late Monday evening at the Salem Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Theresa H. (Walker) Mello.
Born and raised in Peabody, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Marshall) Mello. He was a lifelong resident of the city and had attended Peabody Public Schools.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the United States Navy and was a recipient of the American Area, Asiatic, and Victory Ribbons. After the war, he had worked for over 30 years for Essex Bituminous Asphalt Co. before retiring a few years ago.
He was a member of the VFW, Post 1011 of Peabody and enjoyed playing cards, fishing and was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by 3 sons, William and Robert Mello, both of Peabody, and Anthony Mello of California, 2 daughters, Theresa Mello and Ann Marie Braga both of Peabody; 3 sisters, Rose Crawford of Peabody, Alice Kingston of Salem and Grace Condon of Haverhill, Ma; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and
Nephews. He was the father of the late Sgt. Eric Mello of the U.S.Army.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
