Obituary of Allen B. Newton

Allen Bishop Newton, 92, of Lynnfield, MA died Saturday , January 8, 2011 at the Rosewood Nursing Center in Peabody after a brief illness. He married his childhood sweetheart, Mary (Waters) Newton and enjoyed seventy years of blissful marriage. Allen was born in Peabody on December 20, 1918, the son of the late John and Blanch (Bishop) Newton and was raised there and attended Essex Agricultural School in Middleton. He entered the US Navy in 1943 during WW 11 working with the Seabee Unit in the Pacific theatre, The Phillippines and New Guinea prior to his discharge in 1945. Allen had been in the Automotive industry for 58 years working mostly as a service manager In the North Shore car Dealers service departments retiring from the Petersen Lincoln Mercury Dealership of Lynn and Peabody. He had been an active mason and a member of the Shriners and also belonged to the Aleppo Temple in Boston. He was a past master at the Essex Lodge of Masons A.F. & A.M of Salem. Following his retirement, Allen was a driver for the Salem Senior Center for many years. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, Line Dancing and calling Bingo at the Senior Center. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Richard Roach of Oxford, Ct. and Kathleen and Stephen Armitstead of Ipswich, his grandchildren and spouses, Beth and Christopher Gaudette and Amy and John Revere all of Thomaston, CT., Michael L and Barbara Armitstead and Mark and Julie Armitstead all of Ipswich, MA and Erin and Stephen Karpenko of Harwinton, CT, Ten great grandchildren, two nephews and a niece. He was the brother of the late Ruth Hurley and Muriel Berry. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 from 11:00 until 1:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Service will be held there at 1:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
