Obituary of Edward Joseph Lucas

Edward J. Lucas, Sr., 87, of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died peacefully Monday afternoon at his home following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Elizabeth Ida (Santorella) Lucas. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Stanley and Catherine (Connolly) Lucas. He was raised and educated in Salem and attended Salem Public Schools. After high school, he enlisted with the United States Navy and served during World War II. He was the recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, European Theatre 1 Star, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon and Philippines Liberation Ribbon, before being honorably discharged in 1945. Edward last worked for the Peabody Police Department as a custodian and carpenter for 9 years before he retired. Edward enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Italian American Club in Peabody. He is survived by his son, Edward J. Lucas, Jr and his wife Frances of Peabody, four daughters, Elizabeth Lucas of Peabody, Christine Ball of Sarasota, FL., Deborah and her husband David Holland of OH, and Patricia and her husband William Rogan of Beverly, and is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was the half brother of the late James Nimblett and Mary Eagar. At the request of the family, there are no funeral services planned.
