Obituary of Bernardo Engracio

Bernardo Engracio, 68, of Peabody, died early Thursday morning at the Pilgrim Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness. He was the husband of Joana (Varela) Engracio. Born in Portugal, he was the son of the late Fernando and Maria (Canejo) Engracio. He was raised in Portugal, and while living in Portugal, served with the Portuguese Army for three years and saw combat in Angola, Africa. He later immigrated to the United States and settled in Peabody. While living in Peabody, he worked as a mason and in the leather factories before his illness six years ago. Besides his loving wife Joana, he is survived by fours sons and daughters-in-law, Jose and Amy Canejo of CA., Antonio and Karen Canejo of Peabody, Carlos and Sheri Engracio of Danvers, and Pedro and Michelle Canejo of AZ., five daughters and four sons-in-law, Angelina and Sean Batchelder of Peabody, Helena and Purdy Myers of Salem, Susana and Kenny Davis of Peabody, Sonia and Manny Vidinha of Salem, and Elizabeth Engracio of Peabody and her fiancé Corey, and is also survived by nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers and sisters, all of Portugal. His funeral service will be held on Monday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.
