Obituary of Edward C. "Ned" Caden

Edward “Ned” Caden, Jr., 74, of Peabody, died Saturday afternoon at the Pilgrim Nursing Home following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Frances (Florkowski) Caden. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Edward and Valerie (Smith) Caden. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of St. John’s Prep, class of 1954. After high school, he entered the United States Air Force and served at the end of the Korean War and was honorably discharged in July of 1959. After his military service, he worked various jobs throughout the North Shore and New York areas. He later was a bar tender at the former Rico’s 466 in Danvers, the Courthouse Pub and at St. Mike’s Hall in Peabody. Ned was a member of the Elks B.P.O. E. lodge 5905 in Peabody, and he also enjoyed bowling and golfing and played in St. Mike’s Golf league. Ned is survived by his children, Edward Caden, III and his wife Nicole of Gloucester, Laurie Caden of Gloucester, and Helen and her husband John McNamara of South Carolina, his sister, Judy Dartt and her husband Stephen of Peabody, his three grandchildren, Andrew Caden, and John & Michael McNamara, and by his niece and nephew, Richard Brunet of San Antonio, TX, and Kristen Brunet of Orlando, FL. He was the brother of the late Charles Caden. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
