Obituary of Nicholas Stamatopoulos

Nicholas Stamatopoulos (FLAG) PEABODY—Nicholas Stamatopoulos, 91, beloved husband of the late Despina “Tessie” (Papadopoulos) Stamatopoulos, a longtime resident of Peabody, died Sunday January 30, 2011. His final days were spent surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Stephen and Constance (Christodolopoulos) Stamatopoulos. He was raised in Salem, graduating from Salem High School. Nick went to work at A.C. Lawrence. He later was with New England Carbide where he stayed until retiring in 1984. Nick was an Army veteran of World War II, and served in Central Europe and France. He was a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1011 of Peabody. He was also a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, and the Masons, Jordan Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Peabody. Nick truly enjoyed the large family gatherings that were woven throughout his life. Some of his favorite hobbies included carpentry and woodworking. Mr. Stamatopoulos is survived by two sisters-in-law, Annie Papadopoulos and Evangeline Stamatopoulos, both of Peabody, and by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Tessie with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage, and his siblings Spiro Stamatopoulos of Lynn, Lulu Antonio of Salem, Michael Stamatopoulos of Peabody, and Georgia Stamatopoulos of Quincy. A visitation will be held on Friday from 11 AM to 12 Noon in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to his Funeral Service which will immediately follow visitation at 12 Noon in the church. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Funeral planned with Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody.
