Obituary of Clara N. (Peters) Geanoulis

Clara N. (Peters) Geanoulis, 87, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by her family. A lifelong Peabody resident, she married her high school sweetheart, the late Nicholas Geanoulis. Clara was born in Peabody, February 24, 1924, the daughter of the late Alex & Bessie Petropoulos. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1942. Clara was employed for many years as a secretary / bookkeeper at the Cabot House and Paine Furniture prior to her retirement. Anyone who knew Clara knew her greatest enjoyment was her family and she loved life and being yia yia (grandmother) to Christopher “Tiffer” of Danvers, Jonathan of Gloucester, Elizabeth of Boston, & Nicholas of Amesbury. She also cherished being great-grandmother to Kyle, Jocelyn, Dakota & Wyatt. She was a member of the Daughters of Penelope, and also enjoyed oil painting, playing bridge and bowling. Clara was the proud mother of long time Peabody teacher & coach official Jim Geanoulis & his partner Bonnie Souther of Newbury, and Beverly Hospital pharmacist Alec Geanoulis & his wife Janet of Amesbury. Clara is also survived by her sister, Jennie & husband Paul Costas of Peabody; her brother Frank Peters and his wife Cynthia of Peabody; many nieces, nephews and her wonderful friend & neighbor Eleanor Costello. She was predeceased by her brother James “College” Petropoulos and sisters Agnes Fedas & Martha Stavros. Her funeral will be held on Monday, February 7, 2010 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a service at 10 a.m. in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Sunday, February 6, 2011 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made in the name of their mother Clara Geanoulis to Hospice of the North Shore, www.hns.org , 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
