Obituary of Joseph Andrade

PEABODY—Joseph Andrade, 86, beloved husband of the late Nancy (Warren) Andrade, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday February 13, 2011. Born in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Henrique and Maria (Tomaz e deRita do Carro) Andrade. He grew up in Peabody, and graduated from Peabody High School. He then studied at Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston, and passed certification as a Master Electrician. He lived a short time in Salem, yet most of his life in Peabody. Mr. Andrade was a veteran of World War II, with service in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Hawaii and Youkokaska, Japan. Following the war, he worked at A.C. Lawrence Leather Company and Eastman Gelatin in Peabody. He was employed for a long career with Lincoln Labs of M.I.T. at Hanscom Air Force Base, retiring 24 years ago. Joseph enjoyed travel with his wife. Together with his family, he spent time at Great East Lake in New Hampshire and liked outdoors activities. He also liked Big Band music and ballroom dancing. He was a devoted care giver for his family through their illnesses, and was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by: two daughters, Diane Desmond and Sharon Andrade, both of Peabody; two grandchildren, Jennifer Desmond of Ipswich and Amanda Desmond of Rowley; a brother, Thiophilos Andrada of Beverly, and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Monday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to his Funeral Service at on Tuesday at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
