Obituary of Wilbur F. Joseph
Wilbur F. Joseph, 87, of Beverly died early Monday morning at the Ledgewood Nursing Center, Beverly after a short illness. He was the husband of Mary (Maklae) Joseph who died last January.
He was born in Cambridge on February 15, 1918 the son of the late Elmer and Eliza (Whitley) Joseph and was a graduate of Malden High School in 1936. He had resided in Peabody and later in Beverly for the past 53 years.
Mr. Joseph had been employed as a quality control engineer with the General Electric Co., Lynn for over 30 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of WW 11 serving overseas with the US Army.
He had belonged to the Odd Fellows of Peabody and was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Salem.
He enjoyed photography and traveling including visits to Russia, Panama Canal and across the United States.
He is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Martha Stravropoulos of Salem, Ma and Barbara and her husband Gerald Surette of Litchfield, NH, a Sister, Geraldine Mello of Newport, RI, 4 Grandchildren, ,Nicole Scaletti, Mathew Surette, and Rebecca Davidson all of NH and Stephanie Ellison of Salem, MA, 8 Great Grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, Anna Sousa, Olga Cassell and Sonia Maklae all of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John E. Joseph and Clayton Joseph.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Friday from the Funeral Home at 9:00 AM followed by Services in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Salem at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Nicholas
