Obituary of Phyllis I. (Gleason) Powers

Phyllis I. (Gleason) Powers, 89, wife of the late James H. Powers, Jr., died at the Kaplan family House in Danvers on Thursday, February 24, 2011 with her family at her side. Mrs. Powers was born in Lynn on June 15, 1921 daughter of Louis and Nellie (Cheever) Gleason. She was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School Class of 1939. Mrs. Powers has been a resident of Peabody for 58 years. Mrs. Powers began her working career as an assembler at the G.E. Riverworks Plant in Lynn. In 1985, she retired from GTE Sylvania where she was employed in the same capacity for 30 years. Mrs. Powers was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home atmosphere for her family. As a hobby, she loved working in her flower garden and as a member of the GTE Quarter Century Club she travelled extensively on their planned trips for retirees. Mrs. Powers is survived by her 3 daughters, Susan M. Cronin and her husband Gordon J. Cronin Jr., Beth A. Powers of Peabody and Debra J. Powers of Boca Raton, FL; a granddaughter, Cathi-Jo Langemo of Oxbridge; 4 great grandchildren, David, Kieler, Alison and Madyson; a great great granddaughter, Kinley; her many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces and nephews. Her siblings Mary Maloney, Barbara Papagelis, Ruth Robinson, Virginia Fortucci, Leona Frappier and Albert Gleason predeceased her. Her funeral will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 12 p.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Sunday, February 27, 2011 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
