Obituary of Utpala "Parul" (Maity) Nath
Utpala “Parul” (Maity) Nath, 69, of Marblehead, wife of the late Dr. Radha Gobinda Nath, PhD, died on Monday, February 28, 2011 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston with her family at her side.
Parul was born in Contai, West Bengal, India on December 16, 1941 daughter of the late Saroj and Sova (Bishan) Maity. She was raised in Contai and received her education from the Contai Brahmo Girls School graduating in 1957. She then pursued her education at the Contai Prabhat Kumar College in West Bengal, India attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy in 1961. From 1961 to 1963, she taught English at the Contai Brahmo Girls School.
Parul immigrated to the United Sates in 1963, making her home in Logan,Utah before moving to Salem, MA in 1968. In 1969, she and her late husband Dr. Nath moved to Marblehead. Parul was a loving mother who devoted her entire life to creating a home for her family. In the community she was a loving and loyal friend. She loved cooking especially in later years serving Luchis (fried dough) to her 2 grandsons whom she cherished. As hobbies, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, traveling and singing.
Parul and her late husband Dr. Nath were founding members of the Prabasi Cultural Club in the early 1970’s and the Bengalees of New England in early 2000.
Parul is survived by a son, Amit Nath of Marblehead; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Susmita and Christopher Ford of Burlington, and Mousumi Nath of Brookline; 2 grandchildren, Ian and Neil Ford both of Burlington; 3 brothers and sister, Samat Maity, Subrata Maity, Samir Maity and Mridula Das all of India, and a host of relatives and friends here and in India. Her brothers Susanta and Sisir Maity predeceased her.
A Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 12:45 to 2 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody. Her celebration of life service to which relatives and friends are respectfully invited will be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to the Nurse’s Fund for Oncology at the Brigham and Women's Hospital.
