Obituary of Maria (Sousa da Silva) "Zulmira" Lima

Maria (Sousa da Silva) “Zulmira” Lima, 82, of Peabody, died Sunday evening at the Hammersmith House in Saugus following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Manuel Sousa Lima. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Sousa Mendonca and Zulmira Sousa Silva. She was raised and educated in Portugal before immigrating to the United States where she has lived in Peabody for the past 43 years. Family was very important to her and she dedicated herself to her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and embroidering. She is survived by her loving family, including her three sons, Manuel, Helio, and John Lima, all of Peabody, her five daughters, Margaret Eiro and Lucy Melo, both of Lawrence, Maria Medina of Gloucester, and Scina Picanco and Filomena Bernardo, both of Peabody, her brothers, Manuel Sousa Mendonca of Portugal, the late Arnaldo Sousa Mendonca, and is also survived by 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
