Obituary of Effie (Pappacostas) Tsoulas

Effie (Pappacostas) Tsoulas, 78, wife of the late James A. Tsoulas with whom she shared 59 years of marriage, died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, March 12, 2011. Mrs. Tsoulas was born in Albania on August 1, 1932 the daughter of John and Evdoxia (Liatsis) Pappacostas. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1935 making their home in Peabody. She was raised and educated in Peabody, and was a lifelong resident. Effie was employed for 20 years as a sales clerk at J.J. Newbury at the North Shore Shopping Center until her retirement in 1987. She was a loving mother who dedicated her life to creating a home atmosphere for her children and later she was the proud grandmother of 2 grandsons and their accomplishments. Effie enjoyed shopping with her sister Mary, and loved playing cards and going to the movies with her girlfriends. She was also a regular at the Peter Torigian Community Life Center. Effie is survived by her 2 sons and their spouses, Van J. and Colleen Tsoulas of Peabody, and Jon Jay and Jeanne Tsoulas of Orlando, FL; 2 grandsons, Van J. Tsoulas II of Peabody and Zachary W. Taylor of Wells, ME; a sister and her husband, Mary and Richard Kohut of Peabody; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and many friends. Her siblings William Pappacostas and Julia Canatselos predeceased her. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Effie’s name to the Shriners Burns Hospital, www.shrinershq.org/hospitals/main , 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02116. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
