Obituary of Anthony "Tony" J. Juliano

Anthony John “Tony” Juliano of Peabody, 71, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2011, surrounded by his family, due to complications following a stroke. Born in Winchester on April 5, 1939, he was the son of the late John and Grace (White) Juliano of Winchester, MA. Anthony was the beloved husband of Carolyn (Calandrella) Juliano of 48 years, and the devoted father of four children and proud “Grampa” of eight grandchildren. Surviving him are his son John, daughter-in-law Yevgenia, and grandson Robert of Poolesville, MD; daughter Karen Lapolla, son-in-law Joseph, and grandchildren Anthony, Brianna, and Kelsey of Peabody, MA; daughter Lisa Fruggiero, son-in-law Roger, and granddaughters Juliana, Giada, and Marisa of Salem, MA; and son Anthony, daughter-in-law Arienne, and grandson Alex of Fort Wayne, IN. He was the brother of Mary Dyer of Danvers, MA; Deborah Kilian of Billerica, MA, and the late John Juliano of Merritt Island, FL; and the uncle of eleven nieces and nephews, and five grandnieces and grandnephews. Educated at Matignon High School and Boston College, Anthony was a Peabody resident for the past 42 years. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country in Korea as a member of the United States Army. Anthony had been employed for many years at Honeywell, and later became a much-admired computer teacher, volleyball and track coach, and Video Club moderator at Bishop Fenwick, where he was lovingly known as “Coach Spike”. He taught at his alma mater Matignon High School as well as North Shore Community College. He faithfully served as an ordained Deacon and CCD teacher for over three decades at St. Adelaide’s Parish. Anthony provided all of the following organizations with his outstanding leadership and guidance during the past 40 years: Peabody Little League and Lou Gehrig Baseball, Peabody Youth Hockey, USSS Women’s Softball, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, Peabody Recreation Department, and Peabody Cable Commission. In recent years, he served as the President of AARP Local 4806 and Treasurer for the Peabody Council on Aging, and had a popular cable sports television program called “From the Press Box”. While most of his time was spent with his family and friends and in the service of others, Anthony was also a Boston Red Sox “superfan”, traveling to many Spring Training sessions in Fort Myers, attending more than 30 Opening Day games, even creating an entire room at home dedicated to the Red Sox, of which he was extremely proud. He saw his lifelong dream finally come true of a World Series Championship for the Bosox in both 2004 and 2007.
