Obituary of Joseph Peter Martino

Joseph P. Martino PEABODY—Joseph P. Martino, 64, beloved husband of Charlene (Sisson) Martino, died peacefully on Wednesday March 23, 2011 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a long illness. Born in Danville, PA, he was the son of the late Genevieve (Saukaitis) Martino. He grew up in Kulpmont, PA where he graduated from high school. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he completed his patriotic tour of duty during the Vietnam War. He served with the 2nd Battalion 1st Marines, and was discharged with the rank of Sargent. Mr. Martino trained with the Greere Technical Institute in Braidwood, IL for large machinery. He was employed with the Construction Labor Union, Local 14/22 as a Foreman for several years. He later worked as Maintenance Superintendent with the Salem Housing Authority for eight years, retiring in 2009. Joseph was a history buff, and enjoyed military history of WW I & II, and airplanes. He was a member and loved Corvettes as a member of the North Shore Corvette Club, he was a fan of NASCAR racing, and was a very devoted family man who valued spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by: his wife, Charlene (Sisson) Martino of Peabody with whom he shared 42 years of marriage; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph & Jodi Martino of Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Christina & John Rappold of Peabody; three grandchildren, Joey and Ryan Martino and Tyler Rappold; a sister-in-law, Ann Martino of PA; several nieces & nephews, especially recognizing Lori & Bernie Schwatz and Anthony & Jodi Martino all of PA, Kim Martino and Alison Martino, both of VT; and 12 living other brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death, besides his mother, by a twin brother Antony who just died this past January 2011. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Monday March 28, 2011 at a TBA from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody/Salem. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to the Kaplan Hospice House, c/o Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
