Obituary of John Murray Lyons

John Murray Lyons, 93, of Lynnfield, beloved husband of Dorothy Anne (Munn) Lyons, died Sunday morning at his home following a brief illness. Born in Whiting, Indiana, he was the son of the late Jeremiah ad Bridget (Lyons) Lyons. He attended Boston College High School and then Boston College and received his degree in 1940. He was a proud Golden Eagle and more recently just celebrated his 70th class reunion from Boston College. After graduating from college, John enlisted with the United States Navy and served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war, John worked for the Exxon Corporation in Everett as a marketing analysist for over 40 years before retiring many years ago. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Jack Lyons of Del Ray Beach, Fla., Anne and her husband Richard Dosch of Peabody, Jean and her husband Steven Watras of Needham, and MaryBeth and her husband Carl Mead of Mission Viejo, CA, his sister, Virginia Murphy of Stoneham and was adored by his 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Denis Lyons and brother of the late Lucy Riley. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 12:00 PM Noon at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Malden at a later date. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to the All Care Hospice, 16 City Hall Square, Lynn, MA 01901.
