Obituary of Caroline "Carrie" (Mello) Fossa

Caroline “Carrie” V. (Mello) Fossa, age 94-p of Oak Ridge, TN and a long-time resident of Peabody, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at NHC Health Care Center in Oak Ridge. She was born October 31, 1916 in Peabody, Massachusetts. Before her move to Oak Ridge in 2004, she was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. She was the Sunday School coordinator there for many years. She also worked at GTE Sylvania before her retirement in 1979. When she moved to Oak Ridge in 2004, she became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She loved her family dearly and especially loved to cook and care for them. She is preceded in death by her husband, James M. Fossa, with whom she enjoyed 62 years of marriage before his death in 2003; parents, Emanuel and Noemia (Marahao) Mello, brothers Anthony Mello, Frederick Mello, Manuel Mello, and Edward Mello; sister Mary Obelina (Mello) Travers. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and George Dodson of Oak Ridge, TN; loving sisters-in-law Mary Greenlaw of Danvers, MA and Marge Early of Lehigh Acres, FL; loving niece Claire Mentus of Lakeland, FL, whom she raised as a child, and other loving nieces and nephews throughout New England. She also had a host of grand- nieces and grand-nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Continuum Courtyards, Estates of Oak Ridge Memory Care Unit, NHC Health Care Center, and Caris Hospice Care for their loving care. They would also like to thank Georgia Shephard for her special care, love and support as well as to Brenda Lawrence. Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday April 4, 2011 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 CHURCH Street, Peabody at 12:00 PM Noon to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM.
