Obituary of Sarah (Jamont) Sweeter

Sarah (Jamont) Sweeter, 88, of Peabody, wife of the late Steven Sweeter, died at her home on Thursday, April 14, 2011. Mrs. Sweeter was born in Salem on September 18, 1922 the daughter of Theodore and Stafania (Zemitis) Jamont. She was raised in Salem and graduated from Salem High School. In the early 1950’s, she and her late husband moved to Peabody. Mrs. Sweeter began her working career as an assembler at the GTE Sylvania Plant on Boston Street in Salem. Later, she was employed for many years as a sales clerk at Empire Clothing Store in Salem until their closing. Sarah was a loving mother who devoted her life creating a home for her 2 sons, and later was the proud grandmother of Halle. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church in Peabody until it’s closing, a member of the Holy Rosary Society and St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild. Sarah enjoyed traveling with the Peabody Golden Agers and knitting as a hobby. Mrs. Sweeter is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Peabody Police Officer Andrew J. Sweeter of Peabody, and Paul W. and Janice Sweeter of Phoenix, AZ; her granddaughter, Halle Sweeter of AZ; a sister, Clara Pappas of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Benjamin Jamont and Aloyzy Jamont. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Monday, April 18, 2011 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
