Obituary of Daniel Allen "Skip" Mac Donald
Daniel A. “Skip” Mac Donald Jr., 73, of Peabody, died peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2001 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with his family by his side.
He was born in Malden, Ma on January 1, 1938, the son of the late Daniel A. and Dorothy (Dodd) Mac Donald Sr. and had resided in Peabody most of his life.
Skip was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1956 and was elected as class president. He also played on the football and hockey teams while at Peabody High School. He then attended Bentley School of Accounting. He had enlisted in the US Army and served over in Germany prior to his discharge.
Skip started the Mac Donald Fudge Company in Danvers with a handed down recipe in the Mac Donald family. He later became the manager of Chelsea Liquor Mart in Chelsea and also operated Skip’s Lounge in Chelsea for over 30 years prior to his retirement 2 years ago.
He was first married to Constance (Pechinsky) Mac Donald prior to her death in 1991.
Skip loved sports and continued his hockey with the adult hockey leagues in Peabody for over 25 years. He also had a passion for golf and enjoyed playing at the Gannon Golf Club in Lynn and later at the New Meadow Golf Club in Topsfield. He enjoyed watching the Bruins and Red Sox and rooting them on.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Whitcomb) (Newhall) Mac Donald of Peabody, his two sons, John Mac Donald of Georgetown and Daniel Mac Donald and his wife Sonia of Los Angeles, CA., a sister, Phyllis Hancock of PA, his two step-daughters, Sandra and Barry Raymond of East Hampstead, NH and Diane and John Broughton of Peabody, his six grandchildren, Jason and Shelly Raymond, Scott and Leanne Broughton, Hailee Mac Donald and Sienna Mac Donald, three great grandchildren, Joshua Card, Xavier and Chloe Raymond and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert F. Mac Donald who died last year.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem, MA. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of No Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite 102B, Danvers, MA 01923 in his memory.
