Obituary of Russell H. Craig

Russell H. Craig, 81, of Peabody, died late Saturday evening at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home, Danvers, following a brief illness. He was the former husband of Phyllis E. (Cunningham) Craig of Lynn. Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late Albert and Viola (Hotaling) Craig. He attended Lynn Public Schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1941. He later attended Boston University before World War II. He has been living in Peabody for the past 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II, who served with the United States Army and was the recipient of the American Theatre Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Craig served fourteen years as a Massachusetts State Representative from the Lynnfield District, from the late 1950’ s to the early 1970’ s. He later served as Essex County Clerk Magistrate at the Peabody District Court for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 36 years before his retirement one year ago. He also was a member of the Lynnfield Community Church, Jordan Lodge AF&AM Masonic Lodge of Peabody and an avid Red Sox Fan. He is survived by three sons, Jonathan C. Craig of Lynn, Russell P. Craig of Lynnfield, and Stephen E. Craig of Deerfield Beach, Fla; a sister, Marylin Morrill of Merrimac and is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Wednesday from 4 until 7:00 PM. Following cremation, burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
