Obituary of John Preston DePlacido

John Preston DePlacido, 69, of Peabody, died Thursday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Jean (Ramsdell) DePlacido. Born in Weymouth, he was the son of the late Preston “Pres” and Clara (Rogers) DePlacido. He was raised and educated in Weymouth and was a graduate of Weymouth High School. He has lived in Peabody for the past 43 years. After high school, John attended Boston State College and recieved his Bachelor's degree in Education. He later received his Masters Degree in Education from Salem State College. John worked in the Malden School Systems for over 35 years before retiring 10 years ago. He started as a six grade teacher and later, after receiving his Master’s Degree became a guidance and adjustment councilor. He was affectionately known as “Mr. D” to his students. He was a former football coach at Lincoln Junior High School in Malden, and also for the Ward 6 Peabody Giants. John also worked for the former Peabody Times Newspaper as a writer and photographer. Besides his loving wife Jean, his is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Emily DePlacido of NH, David and Beatriz DePlacido of Beverly, and Michael and Laura DePlacido of Wilmington, two daughters and son-in-law, Lisa and Shelby Sisson of Duncan, OK, and Michelle DePlacido of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Lillian DePlacido of Duncan, OK and is also survived by his step-mother, Ann Gavin DePlacido of Weymouyh, and by his three grandchildren, Marina, Erik, and Emilia DePlacido. His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226. At the request of the family, there will be no visiting hours
