Obituary of John G Cokorogiannis
John G. Cokorogiannis, 85, of Peabody, died Saturday evening at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Aphrodite “Effie” (Papacostas) Cokorogiannis.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late George and Angeliki (Kostopoulos) Cokorogiannis. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1943.
After high school, John entered the military and enlisted with the United States Army and served during World War II before being honorably discharged in May of 1946. After the war, John opened his own transportation company, Georges Transportation and MK Express, both in Peabody. He retired a many years ago.
John was a member of the Italian American Club, Beverly Golf and Tennis Club, St. Vasilios Men’s Club, and the VFW post 1011 Club, in Peabody.
He is survived by a son, George J. Cokorogiannis of Peabody, two grandchildren, John and his wife Mellissa Cokorogiannis of Danvers, and Joy and her husband Keith Saslov of Orlando, FL., and also by a great grandson, Gabriel Cokorogiannis.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by Funeral Services at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
