Obituary of John J. McCorry, Sr.
PEABODY—John J. McCorry, Sr., 87, beloved husband of Teresa (DeOrio) McCorry of Peabody, died Monday morning June 20, 2011 at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody after a long illness.
Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late John and Madaline (Mogan) McCorry. He grew up in Revere where he went to schools, then graduated from Trade School in Everett.
Mr. McCorry served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was stationed in Normandy and the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaigns. He was assigned as a Gunner Motor Vehicle TEC, which was essentially the truck tank with service in the 132nd AAA (Anti-Aircraft Artillery) Gun Battalion.
He used that military training after the war driving an 18 wheel trailer trucks with Mid-States and Johnson Motor Lines for several years. He then worked at the General Electric, Riveworks Plant in Lynn for many years until his retirement.
John was a member of the VFW in Revere. He enjoyed quietly puttering around the house and his garden, especially having his family, grandchildren and his much beloved Rottweiler dog Duke.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa (DeOrio) McCorry of Peabody, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage; two sons, John McCorry of Peabody and Bruce McCorry & his long time companion Sandra LaRosa of Middleton; a daughter, Carol & her husband William Anastos of Revere; five grandchildren, Gina & her husband Bob Noftle, Tania & her husband Alex Case, and Alisha Anastos all of Revere, Erica McCorry of Woburn and Tiffany McCorry of Wakefield; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Copeland of North Andover, and sister-in-law Edith DeOrio of Belmont, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Gary McCorry, sister Margaret Spinelli, and brother-in-law William DeOrio.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday June 24, 2011 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell St., Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.
