Obituary of Esther (Johnson) Reed

Peabody, Esther (Johnson) Reed, R.N, 80, a long time resident of Peabody and later at Bradenton, Florida, died Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Renaissance Gardens at Brooksby Village in Peabody after an 12 month illness. She was the wife of the late Royal Reed who died in 1998. She was born and raised in Stoneham, Ma, the daughter of the late Alfred and Mildred Frances (Smail) Johnson and had lived for 30 years in West Peabody before moving to Bradenton, Florida 24 years ago. Esther was a Registered Nurse and was a graduate of the New England Sanitarium School of Nursing and received her nursing and later her Master Degree in Nursing from Boston College. She taught at nursing schools most of her career at Lynn Hospital in Lynn, the Malden Hospital School of Nursing in Malden and the Atlantic Union College in Lancaster, MA. She also taught at the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing before moving to Bradenton, Fl. While in Florida she had been associated with Home Health Care there for 21 years prior to her retirement 3 years ago. She was a member of the Boston College Alumnae, and had been a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Stoneham. She had a love of animals and enjoyed nurturing her children. She is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Royal and Barbara Reed of Hampton, NH and Michael and Maureen Reed of Weymouth, MA, a daughter and her partner, Kathleen and Adrienne Reed of Lynn, 7 grandchildren, Stephanie and Samantha Reed of NH, Shawn Reed of Weymouth and Jessica, Taylor, Caitlyn and Christian Reed of Lynn and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Dr. Walter Johnson and David Johnson. A Visitation will be held on Friday, June 24, 2001 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
