Obituary of James E Mahoney

James E. Mahoney, 89, of Peabody, died Wednesday evening at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy (LaRochelle) Mahoney. Born in Lowell, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Rhodes) Mahoney. He was raised and educated in Lowell, later lived in Chelsea and has spent the last 38 years living in Peabody. James was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army and was honorably discharged in March of 1944. After the war, James worked for the city of Chelsea and before retiring, he worked in the maintenance department for the Chelsea Housing Authority for over 30 years. James enjoyed playing basketball in his younger days and after his retirement he enjoyed traveling around the world, especially to Ireland. He was the past Commander for the American Legion Post 34 in Chelsea for over 20 years, but his most enjoyable activity was spending time with children and later with his grandchildren, they were his pride and joy. James is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James M. and Debbie Mahoney of Lynn, two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Charles Blake, Jr., of Peabody and Carol Ann and John Jacobson of Naples, FL., a daughter-in-law, Mary Mahoney of Chelsea, a sister, Kay Morris of Lowell, and is also survived by six grandchildren, Jennifer E. Mahoney, Sean Blake, Charles Blake III and his wife Jennifer, and James E. Mahoney, and Steven and Eric Huntly, and by a great granddaughter, Mackenzy R. Figueroa. He was the father of the late Sean F. and Dennis P. Mahoney and brother of the late Madeline. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody.
