Obituary of John E. "Jack" Walsh
John E. “Jack” Walsh, 69, of Peabody died on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Union Hospital in Lynn.
Jack was born in Danvers on January 8, 1942 son of the late William H. “Bill” and Anne M. (Sullivan) Walsh. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from St. Mary’s Boys High School in Lynn Class of 1959. He then pursued his education at North Shore Community College majoring in business.
Jack was employed for 16 years as a Peabody Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service with his delivery route being in West Peabody, until his retirement due to his failing health. He was a past member of Peabody Branch 236, National Association of Letter Carriers.
Having an interest in public service, he was twice elected in 1975 and 1987, as a Trustee of the Peabody Institute Library, and also nominated to the Peabody City Council from Ward 3 in 1967 and for Councilor at Large in 1977. He served as a member and Chairman of the Peabody Community Development Citizens Advisory Committee, and as a Board member of the North Shore Community Action Programs, Inc. He had a passion for gardening and enjoyed following all sports. Jack’s best enjoyment however came from his 3 grandchildren and their accomplishments, and most recently his newest pride and joy was his great granddaughter.
Jack is survived by a son, John W. “Jackie” Walsh of Peabody; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Pizza and James Pizza, and Deborah “Debbie” Compiano and John Compiano, Jr. all of Georgetown; 3 grandchildren, Daniel Compiano, Megan Compiano and Jared Pizza all of Georgetown; a great granddaughter, Haley Compiano of Georgetown; a niece Amy Walsh Wood; many aunts and cousins; his former wife Mary (MacDougall) Fenton of Danvers and numerous friends. His brother William H. “Billy” Walsh, Jr. predeceased him.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., (downtown location) Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Monday, June 27, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral Home.
