Obituary of Stamatia "Marty" Pappafotopoulos

Stamatia “Marty” (Spaneas) Pappafotopoulos, 87, of Peabody, beloved wife of the late Theodore Pappafotopoulos, died Saturday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness with her family by her side. Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Psoinos) Spaneas. She was a life long resident of Peabody and attended Peabody Public Schools. Marty was a true matriarch who enjoyed spending time with her children and later her grandchildren. She loved to cook for her family and watch over them and in her free time, she enjoyed shopping and traveling with her family. After her children were grown, Marty worked at GTE Sylvania in Danvers as a cashier for ten years before turning her attention to her grandchildren and all of their endeavors. Marty is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Dianne Pappafotopoulos of Milton, a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Mike Koen of Peabody, two brothers, Peter Spaneas and Nick and his wife Theodora Spaneas, all of Peabody, two sisters, Connie “Dena” Liberti of Peabody and Stella Maniatakos of Lowell, two sisters-in-law, Lee Nicolopoulos of Virginia and Angela Spaneas Nash of Florida, six grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, and Nicholas Koen, and Theodore, Matthew, and Theresa Pappafotopoulos, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Dan and Irene Spaneas. Her service will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Grove St., Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Stamatia Pappafotopoulos Scholarship Fund at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
