Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" (Ross) Dobson

Elizabeth “Betty” E. (Ross) Dobson PEABODY—Elizabeth “Betty” E. (Ross) Dobson, 81, beloved wife of Norman Dobson of Peabody, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday July 8, 2011. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Arthur F. and Irene W. (Cox) Ross. She grew up in Marblehead, and graduated from Marblehead High School. Mrs. Dobson was a Nurse’s Aide at Salem Hospital, and then worked at Weber’s Store in Salem. She was last employed as a Sales Clerk in the Women’s Department at Jordan Marsh in Peabody before retiring. Betty, as she was affectionately known, was a good-hearted woman with a sense of fun and mischief. Her family and friends will remember her for flour fights that turned into “cement brownies”, her own special use of the English language, and how they would find her favorite cookies better than her hiding skills. She was a supporter of animals and animal rights, the Native American Indian people, loved children and cherished her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Norman Dobson of Peabody, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage; a son, Fred Dobson of Brattleboro, VT; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Ed Porter of Bernardston, MA; five grandchildren, Jason, Jaime, Jenni, Sarah, and Liam; four great-grandchildren, Susan & Jeff Doughty, Kris, Kate, and Julie, and several nieces and nephews, and was a “mom” to daughter Linda’s childhood friends Marianne, Bea and Karen. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday July 13, 2011 at 10 AM in the funeral home for her Funeral Service. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Northeast Animal Shelter, 200 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970
