Obituary of Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Chalmers) Porcello

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Chalmers) Porcello, 85, of Peabody, died Monday at the Lahey Clinic North Hospital in Peabody after a short illness. She was the devoted wife of 61 years to Caesar Porcello. Betty was born in Beverly , MA on September 6, 1925, the daughter of the late Alexander and Joanna (Sweeney) Chalmers and was raised there in Beverly before moving to Peabody 60 years ago. She had been a secretary for the family operated Abbey Fence Company in Peabody for over 20 years prior to her retirement. Betty loved to play Bingo and enjoyed going to Yard Sales. She is survived by her husband, Caesar, three sons, Anthony Porcello of Peabody, David and his wife Trisha Porcello of Peabody and Brian and his wife Bella Porcello of Shrewsbury, MA, a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and David Gormley of Mendon, MA , her two cherished grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Gormley of Mendon and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert Chalmers and Janet Johnson. A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the downtown 20 Church St., Peabody location. Her Funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody/Salem line at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice.
