Obituary of Mary E. (Doyle) McGeney
Mary E. (Doyle) McGeney, 83, of Beverly and formerly of Peabody, died peacefully Sunday July 17, 2011 with her family by her side at the Beverly Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Nicholas McGeney. She was born in East Boston on May 3, 1928, the daughter of the late James and Josephine (Murphy) Doyle and was raised and educated there. She had resided in Peabody for over forty years before moving to Beverly 27 years ago.
Mary had been a free lance reporter with the former Peabody Times for many years. Later she was a lab technician at the J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody and while living in Beverly she had worked in the customer service department at Johnny Appleseeds Company.
Mary loved to read and sew different costumes and dresses for her family. She was considered the matriarch of the McGeney family and cherished supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She had been a member of the Vittori – Rocci Post of Beverly and the North Shore Twins Association.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Peabody School-committeeman David and his wife Stephanie McGeney of Peabody, Marianne and Albert DeVito and Bethany and Robert Phipps all of Beverly, Claudia and Paul Eaton, Bernadette and Vincent Smith and Barbara and Peter Smyrnois all of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Marylyn Doyle of Hull, her cherished grandchildren, Brett, Josianne and Jami, Sean and Katie, Sharon and Emily and Michael, David and Bradley and Dean Ryan, her great grandchildren, Chase, Kaelyn, Annalee and Charlie and her precious dog, Larry. She was the grand mother of the late Maura McGeney and the sister of the late Lorraine Cody, Walter, Arthur and Ralph Doyle and Virginia Mc Donough.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John’s Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Boys Town National Research Hospital, 555 N 30 St., Omaha, NE 68131 in her memory.
