Obituary of Anna M. "Nancy" (Feehily) Cahill

Anna M. “Nancy” (Feehily) Cahill, age 90, of Peabody, died on July 18, 2011, one day before her 91st birthday. She was the wife of the late Edward J. Cahill. Nancy was raised in Salem, the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Elizabeth (Cullinan) Feehily. She was a graduate of St. James High School in Salem, Class of 1938, and attended Salem Commercial School. Nancy began her working career as a telephone operator for New England Telephone in Salem, leaving to raise her family. She later returned to work at the telephone company, retiring in 1981 as a business office administrator, following 30 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Nancy was a communicant at St. Thomas the Apostle Church for over 45 years and was an active member of the St. Thomas Parish Mother’s Club. In later years, she attended Mass at the Discalced Carmelite Monastery in Danvers. In her earlier years, she enjoyed taking summer camping trips across the country with her family, square dancing with Riverside Squares, and the work with the various functions at St. Thomas parish. Nancy is survive by 2 sons and a daughter, Edward J. Cahill and his wife Karen of Peabody, Elizabeth A. “Libby” Caplette and her husband Dennis of Martinez, GA, and Patrick M. Cahill of Peabody; her grandchildren, Jonathan E. Cahill of Peabody, Matthew R. Cahill and his wife Michelle of Vernon, CT, Sarah Cahill of Peabody, Brian and Danielle Caplette of Martinez, GA, and 4 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She also maintained a close relationship with her cousins Joseph Callahan of Salem and Dorothy Moriarty of Springfield. She was predeceased by a son, Robert, who died in infancy and a brother, John J. Feehily, of Willow Grove, PA. The family is very grateful to all those who supported our family during her lengthy illness, and to Partners Home Care for the outstanding care she received from the agency. Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., downtown location (next to St. John’s Church & City Hall) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Salem-Peabody line. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Thursday, July 21, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the downtown 20 Church St. location.
